Mazeppa Thomas Turner was a Scottish immigrant farmer who discovered the falls in 1878. The falls were named for him and recreational use started in or before 1868. Nowadays, the falls are part of Turner Falls Park, a city park operated by the city of Davis, Oklahoma. Several springs from the world-famous Arbuckle Mountains form Honey Creek, which cascades down to a natural swimming pool making the magnificent Turner Falls the largest waterfall in Oklahoma.
