  1. The river was unusually curvy and deep blue when Steve Richards captured it on his camera while flying over the dam. The image went viral immediately after being published on his social media. On our flight from Cardiff to Faro, I took a photograph of a real place.
  2. The river named Odeleite lies in the Portuguese municipality of Castro Marim. 
  3. There is a similarity between the river’s outline and a dragon. Dragons are the yang symbol in Chinese mythology, while phoenixes are the “ying” symbols. Seeing the different archetypes that are represented on the Earth and how they are everywhere, just waiting for someone to discover them, is undoubtedly fascinating. Due to this, the Blue Dragon River has received international attention in recent years, particularly from Chinese tourists.
  4. A dark blue color and an unusual shape have earned this river the nickname “The Blue Dragon River.” 
  5. Dragon Rive originates in the mountains of Serra do Caldeirao and flows through the municipalities of Sao Bras de Alportel, Tavira, Alcoutim, Castro Marim in Faro.
  6. Due to a dam constructed on the river’s path, there is also a reservoir bearing the same name.
  7. The Odeleite River or Blue River is a tributary to the Guadiana River on the right bank.

  9. Odeleite is a small town next to the dam, with several points of interest, such as the Mother Church, which was built in 1534.
